Introduction to Art
This focus is an introduction to the fundamental principles of art history, art theory, and the essential elements of drawing and design. You’ll learn how to see, think, and talk about art while also developing hands-on skills to begin your own creative practice.
Together, we will:
-
Explore key concepts in art and design
-
Study historical and contemporary artists
-
Build foundational drawing skills
- Develop visual literacy and critical thinking
Through guided discussion, exercises, and personal reflection, we’ll begin to unpack some big questions:
-
What is art, and why does it matter?
-
Where do we encounter art in our daily lives?
-
How do we understand and interpret an artwork?
-
What are the core elements of composition and visual language?
-
How can we connect art theory to our own creative work—or simply to seeing the world differently?
Whether you’re new to making art or just curious about what it all means, this class is a welcoming space to build confidence, ask questions, and begin developing an informed and expressive artistic voice.
